DELA KNOKKE

The DELA funeral centre in Knokke has been designed as a place where calm, comfort and functionality come together. Rather than an impersonal setting for farewells, it offers a warm environment in which visitors can feel supported. The auditorium forms the heart of the building and connects directly to a green patio, drawing light and tranquillity deep into the interior.

The serenity of the architecture is consciously extended into the interior design. Wooden columns create a shifting play of light and lend each space its own atmosphere. In the mourning rooms, too, a careful balance has been struck between privacy and connection to the outside world, with windows positioned high in the walls. The result is an environment that offers shelter without feeling enclosed.

Beyond the architecture, the interior plays a vital role in the overall experience of the building. In collaboration with Forum Office, solutions were sought that are understated yet allow room for adaptation and personal use. In the auditorium in particular, it was essential that the setting could be adjusted to accommodate different forms of farewell.
